About the WWCFL

The Western Women’s Canadian Football League was formed in 2011, following the 2010 Women’s World Tackle Football Championships, the first of its kind. Currently, the league features six teams across three provinces and has given more than 1,500 women ages 16 and over the opportunity to get out on the gridiron.

In the early years of the league, many of the women were getting their first-ever opportunity to play tackle football. However, while that is still the case for some of the players who join our teams, women’s football has flourished in the last 15 years, inspiring girls leagues across the country. Following the completion of their youth career, those girls become part of the WWCFL.

Many of the WWCFL players have gone on to compete for their province at national football championships, as well as represent Canada on the international stage at the World Championships (2013, 2017 and 2022).
